Chocolate Dipped Party Pretzels

Chocolate Covered Party Pretzels

We are closing in on the weekend and Daniel and I will be heading to my heaven on earth: Kennel Lake. I grew up in the heart of farm country and was blessed to grow up alongside down-to-earth, farm-to-table, before-it-was-cool people—my friend Ashley being one of them. She is the last of my close group of girls to turn 30 this year and we are celebrating the only way we know how: a barbeque on the lake.

I’ve been going to this place since I was in elementary school. It has seen a whole lot, and it has kept all our secrets. It’s a place where I’ve slept under the stars, where I’ve been heart broken, where I’ve been insecure about my body, and where I’ve been thrown off an inner tube too many times to count. But more than the place itself, it’s the people that inhabit these memories that fill my heart with more joy than the dancing sunset on the moving waves, or the moonlight glistening off the still calm base. These people are my people.

I have never felt luckier to have a group of friends that I’ve known for almost 25 years. After that long, they become family. If you couldn’t kick’em after college then you know: this stuff is REEEAL. Like, being there even when it’s hard, and showing up when they need you most. The only thing missing is a pair of pants that magically fits us all.

They know my flaws and they love me anyway.

I’ve been sentimental about them this week. They are always on my heart, but more so this week in particular. Ashley, Cambria and Jenny: You inspire me, annoy me, and I love you.

So in the spirit of—this is what happens when you don’t have a functional kitchen—I made some chocolate-covered party pretzels. It’s not really scratch, but sometimes life takes precedent over things like that. So, you just say what’s on your heart and make what’s in your kitchensimilar to my fore-said ramblings about my friends. My heart said “must have salty, chocolate nowwith pretty sprinkles.” Also, just buy gluten-free pretzels to make this snack GF or use white chocolate instead of milk chocolate if you so fancy.

Except, why would you want to do that? White chocolate isn’t really chocolate now is it?

But, who am I to judge? I just put chocolate and sprinkles on a pretzel and called it a recipe.

As long as you are happy, do want you want, and trust meyou will be happy if you make these. It’s one of those simple pleasures in life. A fun, little, treat to make when you just want a little something sweet after dinner, but can’t afford to eat a slice of red velvet cake.
